ALBANY – Mary K. Rourk, 90, passed away on Monday, November 24, 2008 at Albany Memorial Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. Mary was the wife of 30 years to the late James J. Rourk, who passed away in 1973.
Mary was born on May 4, 1918 in Mariah, NY and was the daughter of the late Frank and Zofia (Krnyminska) Plonka.
Mary devoted her life to her home and family and she worked for over 11 years for the Albany School District at the former School 20. She had a spirit of generosity that touched everyone who knew her. She loved helping her family, friends and neighbors whenever the opportunity arose. She was devoted to her family and enjoyed spending time with them, especially her grandchildren and great-granddaughters. Mary enjoyed bowling and playing bingo. She was an avid Mets fan and an excellent baker and cook.
Mary was a member of the Menands and the North Albany Senior Citizens. She was a member of the Altar Rosary Society at Sacred Heart Church.
Mary is survived by her children, Daniel J. (Pamela) Rourk of Latham, Teresa (Tom) Hardy of Castleton and Kathleen Rourk of Albany; her grandchildren, Liz (Tim) Hanlon of Glenmont, Trisha Hardy of Denver, CO. and Greg Hardy of Boston, MA., her twin great-granddaughters, Emma and Lyla Hanlon; her siblings, John Plonka of Norfolk, NY, Josephine Duffy of Rome, NY and Stephen (Frances) Plonka of Latham and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to join the family on Wednesday morning at 8 a.m. at New Comer-Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave.). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. at St. Joan of Arc Church, 76 Menand Road, Menands. Interment will follow at St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Regional Food Pantry of NENY, 965 Albany Shaker Road, Latham, NY 12110 in memory of Mary K. Rourk.
