Mary King, 97, of Colonie, died peacefully at home on August 18, 2014 after a short illness.
Mary was born in Allentown, raised in Hudson, NY and after WWII moved to Albany. She worked in variety of businesses throughout her life, but primarily as a waitress in her later years at Sleasman's Hoffbrau and Michael's Banquet Hall.
She was predeceased by her husband, James E. King, of 38 years and survived by her three children, Karen King (Rob Solomon) of Rockville, MD, Edward (Barbara) King of Clifton Park, NY and Lawrence King, of Yorba Linda, CA. Also survived by four grandchildren; Erin (Jared) Van Dusen, Benjamin & Emily Solomon and Traci (Adam) LoCasale. She was predeceased by her brother Mike, and sisters Nelly and Katherine, and survived by her brother Sam (Phyllis), of Catskill, NY.
Mary was a hard worker her entire life and even after retiring enjoyed working and socializing at the H.B. Kuhn Colonie Senior Center and St. Clare's Seniors. She enjoyed traveling and attending her husband's WWII Army reunions for 60 years, where she had made many close friends.
The family would like to express its sincere thanks to Interim HealthCare and their Home Health Aids and to Community Hospice of Albany for their care and dedicated service they provided.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, September 6, 2014 at 9 a.m. at St. Clare's Church, 1947 Central Ave., Albany NY. Interment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands. Relatives and friends may visit at Newcomer Canon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie, NY funeral home Friday, September 5, from 4 to 7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to "Umbrella of the Colonie"; http://www.colonieseniors.org/ColonieSeniorServices/MakeGift.aspx, or to a charity of one's choice.
