NISKAYUNA – Mary Lou Allmond, 89, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, February 29, 2012 after a brief illness. Born in Altoona, PA, she was the daughter of the late George and Maxine Cassarly.
Mary Lou was employed as a teacher's aide for BOCES. She was an ardent animal lover. In addition to caring for gerbils, rabbits, guinea pigs and many dogs over the years, she would take in the occasional wild animal and nurse it back to health. She loved her gardens and enjoyed planting flowers in the spring. The summer time made her happy and she enjoyed sitting in the warm sunshine with her dog. Mary Lou was a woman of strong faith and a stubborn Irishwoman – one of her many great qualities. She was also a wonderful cook and loved entertaining her family. The reunion Mary Lou recently attended with her large Pennsylvania family meant everything to her.
Along with her parents, Mary Lou was predeceased by her brother George Cassarly; sisters Phyllis Martin, Sarah "Sally" Craig, and Patricia "Pat" Dodson.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, William J. Allmond; daughter Kathleen (James) Allmond-Glywa; son Edward (Bonnie) Allmond; granddaughter Rebecca Allmond; sister Virginia "Ginny" Cassarly; brother William Cassarly, and beloved Dachshund, Hans.
