Mary Lee Mason

Ms. Mary Lee Mason was born May 1, 1934, to the union of Morrison and Annie Mae Russell in Barnwell, SC. She received her education at Pittsburgh Public Schools in Pittsburgh, PA.


She had 5 siblings. Twins Horace and Morris Russell, Bobby Gene Russell, and twins Pearl H. Russell-Gandy and Reverend Earl H. Russell.


Mary had 8 children. Rachel Hairston, Jimmy Mason, Randell Mason, Linda Pompey, twins Juanita Mason and Jon Mason, Della Mason Plater Jenkins, and Yulanda Brandon.


Mary met her soulmate in Isaac Brandon. Their love lasted for more than 40 years until he preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her eldest twin brothers Horace and Morris Russell, brother Bobby Gene Russell, younger sister Pearl Russell-Gandy, and her daughter Rachel Hairston, and son Jimmy Mason.


Mary enjoyed fishing and cooking. She was very caring and passionate about family. Mary Lee had a great sense of humor and always loved to make people laugh. She was sometimes known as the life of the party. Mary cared for her grandchildren for a number of years and was always playing games and making things fun for them.


As time went on, she became good friends with Mrs. Neomi Pompey, who looked after and helped care for Mary for a number of years.


Mary Lee transitioned from this life on June 12, 2019, to be with the Lord. She leaves to cherish her memories her children Linda (Roosevelt) Pompey, Juanita Mason, Della Mason Plater (Philip) Jenkins, Yulanda Brandon, Randell Mason, Jon Mason, and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, loved ones and friends.


Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 18, 2019 from 10am to 11am at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 181 Troy Schenectady Road, Watervliet, NY 12189. A funeral service will follow at 11am at the funeral home. Interment will be in Albany Rural Cemetery, Menands.
