Mary I. Matava, 93, passed away on Monday, June 21, 2021 in Troy. Mary was born in Cohoes and was the daughter of the late Peter and Jennie Basios. Mary was the devoted wife of over 50 years, to the late John Matava.
Mary was a member and a communicant of Holy Trinity Church in Cohoes.
Mary enjoyed playing Bocce and bowling with her Norton Retiree friends. She was Past President of the Columbia Crest Senior Housing and loved spending time with her family.
In addition to her parents and her husband she was predeceased by her brothers, Francis and William Basios; her sister Gloria Garrahan and her brother-in-law Kenneth Tomaro.
Mary is survived by her loving sister, Barbara B. Tomaro, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 181 Troy Schenectady Rd., Watervliet, New York on Thursday, June 24, 2021at 11:00 am, all are invited. Burial will be private at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville, NY with her husband.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the St. Jude P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN, 38148
