Albany-
Mary L. (Fox) Paul of Albany left this life peacefully on April 30, 2023 at the age of 95, in the home where she had lived for the past 70 years.
Mary was born in Albany to the late Louis Fox and Mary Danek. She graduated from Albany High School and worked for the Albany Times Union and National Biscuit Company.
She married her beloved husband, John R. Paul, on November 22, 1947 and spent many years as a homemaker and mother before returning to work for the Albany Catholic Diocese at the old Mater Christi Seminary and then at the office of the Tribunal.
Always active, she enjoyed gardening, square dancing with the Latham Circle Squares, walking her dog, Shutlz, swimming, and being a member of the Colonie Village Western Line Dancers. She also enjoyed going to the Colonie Coliseum and attending live plays in local small theaters. In quiet times, she loved to read mystery stories and watch old movies on TV.
For many years, she enjoyed going to the family camp at Thompson's Lake and loved her trips to Lake George and Cape Cod.
But mostly, she loved her family and we loved her. She was our rock and was always there for everyone when they needed her.
Mary was predeceased by her husband, John R. Paul; her parents Louis and Mary Fox; her siblings Emily (John) Smith, Albina (James) Nelson, Eleanor (Charles) Wagner, William (Christine) Fox; her niece, Jeanne (Bernard) Kramer, and her in-laws John and Mary Paul Sr, Eleanor (Frederick) Sorrell, and Eleanor Busier. She was also predeceased by her loving canine rescue companion, Shultz.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her children Richard Paul and Nancy Paul Fratianni as well as her grandchildren, Jessica Pierce, Stephen Fratianni, Christopher Fratianni, Zachary Fluelling, and Alana Paul. Great-grandchildren include Stephen Fratianni, Jr., Abigail Fronczek, Brianna Lynn Fluelling, Colin Fratianni, Walker Fluelling, and Zachary Fluelling Jr., along with great-great grandson Cameron Fratianni and nephews James (Lorraine) Sorrell and Jeffrey Kramer. She also leaves behind her loving friends of many years, Sal and Luci Prudente, and rescue granddogs Fritz and Mia,who kept a close eye on their grandma in the middle of the night (and a closer eye on any uneaten food she might share.)
The family would like to thank the staff of St. Peter's Hospital E.R. and the 5th floor nurses and staff, Laura McMillan, Dr. Esper, the good folks at Landmark, and especially her caregivers and Hospice workers who made Mary's final days more comfortable at home including Rosemary Murray, Corey, Penny, her massage therapist, her social worker, the hospice switchboard workers and the nurses who talked us through each crisis, and those who came out to help in the middle of the night and especially, at the end. Also her wonderful caregivers Nancy Bonesteel and Erin Kaplan and grandchildren Chris and Stephen who unselfishly gave their time and their love and homemade goodies.
Donations may be made in Mary's name to Community Hospice or Free to Be Me Rescue.
Funeral Services will be private. Interment will be held at Our Lady of Angels Cemetery.
