COLONIE – Mary D. D'Alessandro Saccone, 84 of Colonie entered into eternal rest on Saturday June 25, 2005 at the Inn of Community Hospice after a brief illness.
She was born in Abruzzi, Italy and came to the US in 1930. Mary was the daughter of the late Florindo and Francesca Berghella D'Alessandro.
Mrs. Saccone has resided in Colonie for over fifty years. She worked as a seamstress at Sears during the 1970's. Mary enjoyed life as a stay at home Mom, where she sewed most of her children's clothes as well as her own clothing. She enjoyed gardening, knitting and crocheting, embroidering, painting and drawing. During her senior years, Mary traveled the world and became a self-taught artist. Much of her work is proudly displayed by family and close friends. Mary loved visiting museums, singing off-key, playing games and reading with her grandchildren. She was comfortable meeting new people and went out of her way to make strangers feel welcome. Mary made many friends at Carmel Gardens at the Teresian House in Albany where she lived for these last few months. She lived her life to the fullest and will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate to know her.
Mary was predeceased by her beloved husband John A. Saccone, her sister Cornelia (0svaldo) Bianco, and her grandchildren, Marissa and Gregory Saccone.
She is the beloved mother of Jo-Ann (Phillip) Valvo, Susan (Jack) McGaughnea, Mary C. Vennard and Nicholas (Caroline) Saccone. Mary is the dear sister of Nicholas (Mary) D'Alessandro and Louise (Vincent) Antico. She is the cherished grandmother of Mary Jo (Steve) Burkert, Kathleen (Mark) Tullio, Michelle (Craig) Mulligan, Joseph (Julie) Muraski, John (Sandy) Valvo, Christopher ( Valarie) Vennard, Brian (Amanda) Vennard, Megan McGaughnea, Sean McGaughnea, Jeffrey Vennard, Audrey Saccone and Gabriella Saccone. Great grandmother of Aron & Emily Burkert, Nicholas & Anthony Tullio, Jarod & Rachel Valvo, Meaghan Mulligan and Micah Vennard. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be Wednesday morning at 8:15 at NewComer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie (Rt 155-south of Central Ave) then to St. Clare's Church at 9:00 where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 4 to 8 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery.
