Mary Ellen Weekes

Mary Ellen Weekes, 81, of Latham, NY, passed peacefully on August 30, 2021 at The Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany.
Born in Albany on January 20, 1940, Mary was the daughter of the late Dominick and Mary Conners Mariani.
Mary graduated from Albany High School and also attended Albany Business College and Maria College. Mary retired from New York State OMRDD (now OPWDD) and was previously employed by Garden Way in Troy.
Mary was pre-deceased by her loving husband, Harold G. Weekes, and sister, Joan E. Batchelder.
She is survived by step-children: Michael (DeAnna) Weekes, Mary Ann (Ronald Smaka) Weekes and David Weekes; six grandchildren: Matthew and Christopher Weekes, Justin Roberts and Lindsey, Lia and Logan Smaka; brother, Donald Mariani; nieces and nephews: Katherine A. Powers, Patricia (Robert) Thornton, Ronald (Cheri Lee) Mariani, and Dominick Mariani. Also survived by aunts, uncles, many cousins, great nieces and nephews and many, many dear friends.
Mary's life was filled with love and laughter. She brought joy to everyone, lighting up a room with the warmth of her love and her humor. Mary was always accepting of everyone, embracing and comforting her family and friends, and had special relationships with so many people. She was always on the go, enjoying spending time with family and friends, traveling and playing poker. Mary was a member of the Polish American Community Center and previously was a member of the Italian Benevolent Society and Italian Community Center for many years.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her calling hours on Wednesday September 8, 2021 from 10 a.m. to 12 Noon at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie, NY 12205. A service will follow at 12 Noon. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Community Hospice Foundation, 310 S. Manning Blvd., Albany, NY 12208. Mary's family is thankful for the compassionate care and support that Hospice provided for Mary and her family.
