ALBANY- Matilda M. Duncan, age 94, passed away on December 15, 2023 at Eddy Village Green in Cohoes.
She was born in Albany and was a lifelong resident. She was the daughter of the late Cosimo and Alice Tarzia. She was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, James, her daughter Maureen, and her siblings Terry (Ambrose), Anne (Aldo) and Dominick.
Matilda graduated from the Academy of the Holy Names and from Albany Business College. After graduating she went to work for the New York State Thruway Authority as an Administrative Assistant until 1961.
In 1958 she married the love of her life, James Duncan, and they had five children.
In 1971 she returned to work at the New York State Department of Transportation in the Landscape Bureau as an Administrative Assistant and later as an Administrative Supervisor where she worked until retiring at age 62.
Matilda enjoyed many trips with her husband to Hawaii, Las Vegas, Atlantic City, and various casinos. During the summer months, she loved going to the Saratoga Racetrack as she was an avid horse racing fan. She especially loved spending time with her family celebrating special occasions and holidays.
Matilda is survived by her children: Anna Hale (Charles), Brian Duncan (Kathie), Christina Duncan, Sean Duncan (Kitty); Grandchildren: Christopher Duncan, Andrew Wayand, Philip Duncan, Ryan Hale, and Kacey Duncan. She is also survived by two brothers-in-law, one sister-in-law and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Eddy Village Green and the Eddy Visiting Nurse Association for the excellent and compassionate care they provided for Matilda.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her calling hours on Wednesday December 27, 2023 from 9:30AM to 11:00AM at Christ the King Church, 20 Sumter Avenue, Albany, NY 12203. All are invited to attend her funeral mass at 11:00AM. Interment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands.
