VOORHEESVILLE – Matthew J. Luccese, 84, of Voorheesville, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at his residence. He was born in Bronx, NY and was the son of the late Joseph and Amelia Luccese.
Matt served in the US Marine Corp and the US Army. He was a graduate of the Academy of Aeronautics at LaGuardia Airport and New York State Teacher Training Program at Manhattan Community College. He was employed as an aircraft mechanic by Transworld Airlines and later as a twelfth grade teacher at the Aviation High School in Queens, NY. He was a longstanding member of the Italian American Community Center in Albany and Troy. Matt was a member of the American Legion, Rotterdam Elks and a communicant of St. Mary's Church in Albany.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Ligia Gonzalez-Luccese; his daughters, Susan Luccese and Emily Luccese; his brothers and sister in laws, Anthony and Antoinette Luccese, Joseph and Lynn Luccese; grandchildren, Jon, Matthew, Sharon, Josiah and Christopher; great grandchildren, Khamane, Brooklyn and Jaxon. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Monday morning at 9:30 at Historic St. Mary's Church, Lodge Street, Albany, where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling hours will be Sunday from 3 to 6 pm at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie. Interment will be in Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National VA Cemetery.
