Averill Park- Shea, Matthew F., 88 passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 16th, 2022, at Evergreen Commons Nursing Home. He was born in Troy NY on October 3rd, 1933, son of the late Mathias and Gertrude (Breen) Shea. Matthew was married for 70 years to his loving wife, Mildred Ann Shea.
Matthew was honorably discharged from the NYS National Guard in October 1951. He then joined the US Air Force in October 1951 and served during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged from the US Air Force in 1955.
Matthew worked for Greyhound Bus Co., retiring in 1986 then worked for 10 years at HVCC in Troy NY, retiring in 1997. He worked for 6 ½ years for Daughters of Charity in Menands.
Matthew had a love for his many dogs and cats throughout the years.
Matthew is survived by his wife Mildred, his children Matthew (Tracey), Kathy, Mark (Rhea), Luke (Lorie) and his sister Marilyn Shea. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Matthew was predeceased by his sister Patricia Peplowski.
Matthew's family would like to thank the staff at Evergreen Commons Nursing Center in East Greenbush for their compassionate care.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Matthew's name to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society in Menands, NY and St. Jude Children's Hospital at PO Box 50 Memphis TN 38101.
