Albany –
Mattie L. Green, 89, of Albany, New York departed this earthly life at 10:50 a.m. on Tuesday, April 21, 2020, to be present in eternity with her Heavenly Father.
Born the daughter of Garfield Green and Kinsie Drake in Roanoke, Alabama on June 5, 1930, Mattie was educated in the Randolph Alabama City School System. After relocating to Albany, New York, she worked for over 25 years with the NYS Office of General Services and the Albany County Nursing Home.
Mattie was the loving mother of Areatha Bryant (Steven), Calder A. Junior of Syracuse, NY and Danny Junior of Springfield, MA. In her younger days, she was known as "Mean Mattie Green" because she said what she meant and meant what she said. In later years, she was affectionately known as "Mother Mattie Green". Mattie possessed a no-nonsense style and was a woman full of wisdom. Mattie leaves to mourn her grand-children, Latosha Harrington (George Perment), Matthew Pryor (Cassandra) of North Carolina; Dennis Jeffers (Wanda), Brittany C. McLennan (Ryon), Cachet J. Dobbs, Etienne D. Bryant, Anthony Fisher, Jaylah A. and Atarah E. Bryant. Also left to mourn are nieces, Margie Garnes and Delores Houston; cousins, Dasie Melton, Sadie Dean, Alzona Smith, Leon and Maggie Paige, and a host of great-grandchildren and friends. She was pre-deceased by her sister, Catherine Houston; nephew, James Houston; and great-granddaughter, Tiera Perment.
Due to the current pandemic, services will be private and at the convenience of the family with interment in Memory Gardens, Colonie, NY.
