GUILDERLAND- Melissa A. McCann Buchanan, 46, of Guilderland, passed away peacefully on January 3, 2007 at the Inn of Community Hospice, surrounded by her loving family. Melissa was born in Albany on April 10, 1960 and is the beloved daughter of Elaine and Jim McCann of Guilderland. She was a 1978 graduate of Guilderland High School.
Following her graduation, Melissa work for 14 years with the Albany County Department of Public Works until her first child was born. Melissa then began a much more challenging and rewarding career, she became a full time stay at home Mom. This was her calling in life. She thoroughly enjoyed caring for infant sons and was tremendously proud to watch her boys grow into fine young gentlemen. Raising her children, was the most satisfying accomplishment of her life. Melissa was a gifted, loving and caring Mom. Her boys were her pride and joy. A part of their wonderful Mom, will be in their hearts forever.
Melissa played softball for many years. She was an outstanding pitcher and a ferocious batter. Her most memorable and enjoyable softball moments were with her teammates from The Jade. She also enjoyed volleyball, skiing, tennis, swimming, playing the guitar and singing with Terry. Melissa enjoyed watching the New York Giants with her boys and her sister's annual Halloween party. She loved Old Orchard Beach, Maine where she spent many vacations. Melissa will forever be remembered for her love of family, her kind heart and her enjoyment of life.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at St. Peters Hospital, Community Hospice of Albany and Dr.Azad for caring for Melissa with such heartfelt compassion and gentle care.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her loving husband of 21 years, Paul D. Buchanan Jr.; her sons, Paul D. Buchanan II and Troy James Buchanan; her devoted and loving sister Christina (David) Webber and her brother Robert McCann. She is the beloved aunt of Lauren, Meaghan, Gabby, Billy, Blake and Kyle.
Memorial calling hours will be Friday from 4 to 7 pm at NewComer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave). A memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday morning at 9:00 at Christ the King Church, Westmere. At the request of the family, memorial contributions are suggested to Altamont Rescue Squad, 767 Rt.146 Altamont, NY 12009 or Community Hospice of Albany 445 New Karner Rd. Albany NY 12205 in memory of Melissa A. Buchanan. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Newcomerfamily.com
