Melmouth E. Brissett

Melmouth Edward Brissett of Albany NY transitioned from his earthly home to his heavenly home on October 9, 2024 at Albany Medical Center Hospital. Born on April 4, 1928 in Jamaica West Indies to the late Adolphus and Louise Brissett. Melmouth was the devoted husband to Hortense Brissett. They have been married for 62 years.

Melmouth was employed by the West Indies Sugar Company in Frume, Westmoreland Jamaica, before migrating to the United States of America in 1972. Upon arrival to the USA Melmouth was employed by Albany Medical College. He retired in 1993 after 21 years of dedicated service. However, he did not stop working, soon after he was employed by the city of Albany in the Parks and Recreation department where he worked for over 20 years before retiring in 2013. 

Melmouth had four loves, God, his wife, his family which includes his church family and gardening.

Melmouth became a member of Capital City Seventh Day Adventist Church in 1972 when he arrived in Albany. Brother Brissett held various positions while serving in the church. His passion for his Lord was often displayed in his dedication to the upkeep of the church and his reverence during service. 

Melmouth had a huge passion for gardening. During the summer his front yard was a Home and Garden display of flowers. The backyard produced various types of vegetables such as, squash, tomatoes, peppers, callaloo, cabbage, corn and peas. Melmouth has been producing and sharing organic foods long before organic was in style. 

He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 62 years Hortense, Sister in laws Irma Brown (Victor), Annette Samuels, Hilma Graham, friends and a host of nieces, nephews, that span over 3 generations

Melmouth was predeceased by his brother, Eglon Reid, Vincent Reid, Victor Brissett, Ransford Brissett, Canute Brissett and sister, Lola Brissett James.

 Friends and family are invited to attend visitation on Sunday, October 20, 2024 from 8:00am to 9:00am with service to begin at 9:00am, at Capital City Seventh Day Adventist Church, 168 South Allen Street, Albany NY 12208. Interment will follow in Graceland Cemetery, 680 Delaware Ave, Albany, NY.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions may be made in Melmouth’s name to the Capital District Seventh Day Adventist Church Scholarship Fund.
