SCHENECTADY – Melva I. (Hart) Schrom, 82, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 26, 2012 at the Baptist Retirement Center.
Melva was born on June 14, 1929 in Schenectady and was the daughter of the late Melvin and Mary (Cochrane) Hart and wife of the late William J. Schrom and sister of the late Mildred Birch, Claudia Russell, and Melvin, Raymond, Robert and Donald Hart.
Melva is survived by her loving children, William J. (Karen) Schrom of Texas, Carrie (Joseph) Grattan of Rotterdam and Sharon (Ace) Schrom of Schenectady; sister of Jean Mace and Anna LaPlante; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Melva was a caring woman that cared for all, was a people person and loved just sitting on her front step in the Stockade just talking to her friends and neighbors. She loved to babysit, take walks and just enjoy the outdoors.
The family wishes to give their many thanks to the Baptist Retirement Center of Scotia – they took wonderful care of Mom. Mom now is home with the Lord and now with her family that she loved so much.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. A calling hour will precede the service from 12 noon to 1 p.m. Interment will be at Fisher Cemetery in Rotterdam.
