West Albany- Melvin Francis Wood Jr. "Mel" (83) of West Albany NY passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones.
Mel was the "Jungle Fighter" who loved all things; hunting, fishing, shooting trap and the camaraderie at the clubs where he shared his many stories. He was a lifetime member of the West Albany Rod & Gun Club, where he served as president for 15 years. He was also a lifetime member at the Voorheesville Rod and Gun Club. Mel was a member of the American Legion Zaloga Post #1520. Mel served in the United States Army in Germany from 1957-1963.
Mel was a self-employed painter/taper contractor for over 50 years, working well into his 70's. Mel could point out every house in the Delmar area that he had worked on with great pride.
Mel is predeceased by his Wife of over 40 years Elsie Wood, his Parents Melvin F. Wood Sr. and Julia Wood, Brother, Gene Wood and Sister Leonore Connors.
Survived by his four Son's Melvin F. Wood III (Maryellen), John Wood, Michael Wood, Eric Wood (Erin). Four Grandchildren Daniel Wood, Joshua Wood, Kirstin Wood, Hailey Wood. Longtime companion Ellen Allen. Sisters, Sandra Ravita, Theresa Figueroa. Brothers, Peter Wood (Deborah), Mitchell Wood (Deborah). A host of nieces, nephews and many close friends.
