ALBANY-TOWNSEL, Merien Delores Morris age 85, of Albany, NY formerly of Saranac Lake, NY, went home to be with Jesus Sept.30, 2012. She was born in Petersburg, Virginia on June 9, 1928 the only child of Robert F. and Lunette Smith. She attended Petersburg schools before the family relocated to White Plains NY where she graduated with the class of 1944. She lived in NYC and worked with social service and community-based agencies for over 35 years. She ended her service career being recognized by Albany County Senior Services in 1999 having served over 5,000 volunteer hours that year.
She was predeceased by her husband of 35 years LeRoy Townsel Jr. She is survived by her great Aunt Virginia Rose of Baltimore, MD and a sister in law Barbara Womack, White Plains, NY. She is the mother of nine children the eldest daughter Robin S. Clark (predeceased) and her husband Charles. Son LeRoy Townsel, III of New Rochelle, NY Son Kevin M. Townsel and Annice Townsel of Largo, FL. Son Donald B. Townsel (predeceased) and his life partner Robert Rokoz of New York City. Son Bruce J. Townsel and Debra Townsel of Albany, NY. Son Kim T. Townsel and Anne K. Townsel Largo, FL. Neal K. Townsel and Denise Townsel of Schenectady, NY. LuAnna Townsel McCallop and Willie N. McCallop (predeceased) of Albany, NY and daughter Cathy Ann Townsel of the Bronx, NY.
Mrs. Townsel is survived by fourteen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. She has been relevant in the time of need and crisis for people, young and old. She has been a willing servant, translating with clarity God's supreme love for us all.
