Merlin "Moe" Wagner, 88, of Altamont passed away on December 21, 2020 at his home surrounded by those he loved, following a short illness. Moe was born in Rotterdam, New York on December 7, 1932, the son of Elwood and Marjorie (Mann) Wagner. He attended Draper High School and subsequently enlisted in the US Navy. He completed 20 years of military service, including 4 years of active duty aboard the USS Wallace L. Lind and additional time in the Naval Reserve. He became an avid and lifelong reader of US war history.

Moe retired in 1991 after 27 years of New York State service. He was a member of the New York State Former Troopers Association, the VFW Hilderbrand Davis Post 1895, and a former member of the Noah Masonic Lodge #754. He was always a firearms enthusiast, belonging to the Helderberg Rod and Gun Club for many years. In his retirement, he became a devoted radio control airplane pilot.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son Jeffrey Wagner; and brothers Bernard and Alton Wagner.

Moe is survived by his wife of 64 years, Joanne; daughter and son-in-law Marjorie and David Trombley; and grandchildren Jeffrey Wagner, Alexandra Wagner and Madalyn Trombley.

There will be no calling hours. Services will be private.
