NISKAYUNA – Merlin H. Weekes, 86, died on Wednesday, February 2, 2005 at Ellis Hospital after a brief illness.
Merlin was born on May 25, 1918 in Harrisville, NY to the late James D. and Hazel V. Ayers Weekes Sr.
Merlin worked as a master carpenter for Duquay and Son in Schenectady for many years then went to NYS at the Egg for the Teachers Association for 10 years before retiring in 1983.
Merlin served in the US Army during WWII and was a life member of the VFW Robert L. Weininger Post 8692 in Colonie. He was also a member of the Carpenters Local 370. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed playing golf and repairing TV's.
Merlin is survived by his wife of 43 years, Antoinette Ann (Mariano) Weekes of Niskayuna, his children, James (Jen) Weekes, Carol (Ivan) Dutcher, Lucille DeMassio all of Schenectady and Raymond (Laurie) Weekes of Sarasota, FL, his brother, James D. (Anna) Weekes Jr. of Clifton Park, his sister, Beth (John) Brennan of North Carolina, his seven grandchildren, Debra and David, Tina and Linda, Richard and Stephen and Nicholas and 8 great grandchildren. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Merlin was predeceased by his first wife, Marie (Dagostino) Weekes and two brothers, Donald and Burton Weekes.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave.) with the Rev. Richard Reese from the Church of the Nazarene officiating. Interment will follow at Memory's Garden. Calling hours will be on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
