Merrill J. Messier

COLONIE – Merrill J. Messier, 55, passed away on Monday, July 16, 2012 with his loving family by his side. Born in Troy, he was the beloved son of the late Kenneth W. and Alma (Nielsen) Messier. He lived in Colonie for most of his life. Merrill was a 1975 graduate of Colonie Central High School and attended CDL Tractor Trailer Driving School. He worked for Red Kap Sales as a truck driver from 1984 until 1994. Merrill enjoyed hunting, fishing and motorcycling.

He is the devoted father of Abby (Messier) Kirchner and her husband, Joseph of Colonie. Merrill is the loving brother of Bonnie "Yvonne" Castle and her husband, Arthur of Colonie, Raymond J. Messier of Virginia and the late Mark Messier and Kenneth W. Messier Jr. He is the cherished grandfather of Kendra J. and Corinne E. Kirchner. Also surviving is his sister-in-law, Patricia Messier of Waterbury, CT, his former wife, Patricia J. Messier of Colonie and several nieces and nephews.


A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave). Calling hours will precede the service from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 260 Osborne Rd., Loudonville, NY 12211 in memory of Merrill J. Messier.
