Michael J. "Mickey" Aidala, 80, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at St. Peters Hospital with his loving family by his side.
Mickey was the son of the late John Aidala, Sr. and Idell (Spickler) Aidala.
He was the devoted husband to the late Joan E. (Goddeau) Aidala.
Mickey was elected to the South Colonie High School Hall of Fame in 2017, he was the first graduate of Colonie High School, class of 1955.
Michael served as a Trustee for the Village of Colonie from 1979 to present and was currently serving as Deputy Mayor. He was a former Albany County Legislator representing the 27th District, also former Commissioner of the Albany County Sewer District, and Liaison to the Village of Colonie Department Public Works, Sign Review Board and Tax Assessor. He also worked with his father, brothers and nephews at Quail Auto Sales.
Mickey served as a past President of the Hudson Mohawk Elected Officials Association, a member of the West Albany Italian Benevolent Society, formerly served as a trustee for the Albany Polish American Citizens Club, the Thunder Road Senior Citizens Club and a social member of the Colonie Fire Company. He was a former Assistant Scoutmaster with Boy Scout Troop 278, a past team manager at the Our Lady of Mercy Church Little League, a former President of the Forest Park Elementary School and Sand Creek Middle School PTA's.
He served in the New York State Army National Guard and Reserves retiring at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. A member in the 210th Armor Association and served on its Board of Governors. He was a member of Joseph E. Zaloga American Legion Post No. 1520 and a social member of the VFW Post 8692. He helped to facilitate the construction of the new Village of Colonie Firehouse and EMS station.
Mickey enjoyed many things including playing golf and cards, especially Let it ride. He built a winning soapbox derby car for his daughter and it now resides in the Saratoga Car museum.
Michael is survived by his children; Edward (Kathleen) Aidala and Linda Lee (Jerry) Lawton. He is the adored grandfather of; Rebecca Ann (Robert) Burnham, Cole Joseph (Victoria Walsh) Lawton, Victoria Emily Aidala, Kennedy Lee Lawton and great grandfather of Patrick W. Burnham and Owen Michael Burnham. He is the brother of; John Aidala, Joseph Aidala, Ann Marie (Benjamin) DePasquale, Johanna Aidala, Salvatore Aidala and Catherine (Frank) Bruns. His loving companion, Linda Hartman. He is also survived by his faithful pet, Peaches "Pino", several nieces, nephews and many dear friends.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday July 30, 2017 at St. Pius X Church, 23 Crumitie Road, Loudonville, from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, July 31, 2017 at 10:30 am St. Pius X Church. Interment will follow the Mass at Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Colonie.
