Michael Colucciello Jr., Pharmacist and Inspector
ROTTERDAM----Michael Colucciello Jr., a pharmacist and later, an inspector of health professionals, passed away at Albany Medical Center on August 1, 2023 at the age of 92.
Mr. Colucciello, who had been battling the effects of transthyretin amyloidosis for several years, died of congestive heart failure.
Michael Colucciello Jr. was born in Schenectady on September 4, 1930, the fourth of eight children of Michael Sr. and Maria, the first of the Colucciello children born in the United States. His older siblings (Nicolina, Luigi, and Bianca) were previously born in Italy, and his younger siblings (Gloria, Eleanor, Raymond and Marie) were also born in the United States.
Mr. Colucciello earned his BS in Biology at Union College in 1952 and, following a four-year stint in the Air Force during the Korean War, he graduated with a PharmD from the Albany College of Pharmacy in 1959.
Michael enjoyed a long and varied professional career, influencing many individuals along the way. After working as a clinical pharmacist for several years, he used his knowledge base in the virology laboratory at Sterling Winthrop. In the mid-1960s, he worked in Narcotic Control. He joined the New York State Office of Professional Discipline in the late 1960s as a New York State Pharmacy Inspector, which later morphed into a position where he inspected other health care professionals.
Mike was a gentle soul, selfless, with a huge heart and a unique sense of humor. His priority was his family, especially his son Michael III, and spending time with his friends, always putting a smile on the faces of those with whom he shared time. He was a superb role model for his son, who he supported and advocated for from elementary school through medical school and adulthood.
Mr. Colucciello will be dearly missed by his siblings Raymond (Irene) and Eleanor (the late Jim Bradley), his son Michael III (married to Jennifer), grandson Michael Albert, and several nieces and nephews.
The viewing will be Saturday, August 5, 2023 at 10am at Our Lady Queen of Peace in Schenectady, NY, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11am. Interment will follow in St. Cyril & Method Cemetery, Rotterdam, NY.
