Michael Durante (3/5/33 – 2/1/25)

Michael Anthony (Mick) Durante passed away peacefully at St Peter’s Hospice while holding hands with his beloved wife, Patricia. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Patricia Durante; his sisters-in-laws, Peggy Ritter and Deborah (Fred) Hommel ; and many nieces and nephews. 

Mick was predeceased by his father, Salvatore Durante; his mother, Londa Volpe; his step-father, George Volpe; and his sister, Anna Durante.

Mick was born and raised in Catskill, NY. After graduating in 1957, he enlisted in the Air Force, completed Radio and Radar School, and served two years in Northern ME and then was transferred to Izmir, Turkey as part of NATO Forces for two years. While in Europe he traveled whenever he could.

Upon returning to the US, Mick attended Albany State University where he earned his bachelor’s degree in history. He taught Social Studies to 7th and 8th graders in South Colonie Schools for 32 years at Lishakill, Sand Creek and Saddlewood middle schools. He was always proud to have helped educate over 4,000 students with so many fine fellow faculty members.

Mick enjoyed being with his friends and family, discussing politics and following the NY Yankees and NY Giants. Most of all he loved spending time with his wife Patricia. Everyone who knew them saw the incredible love, respect and kindness they showed to each other.

In recent years, Mick lost some short-term memory but his memories of his childhood, close friends, travel experiences and Patty remained crystal clear. His laugh, sideways smile when joking around, and true gratitude for those around him will live on for those lucky enough to have known him. 

A visitation will be held at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 181 Troy Schenectady Road, Watervliet, New York 12189 on Friday, February 7, 2025 from 10:30am to 12:30pm with a funeral service to immediately begin at 12:30pm. Burial will immediately follow the service at Memory gardens Cemetery, 983 Watervliet Shaker Rd, Albany, NY 12205.
