EAST NASSAU – Michael F. "Mel" Melius, Jr. died suddenly at home on July 29, 2014.
Born February 23, 1968 in Albany, he was the son of Betty Ann Melius Prindle and the late Michael F. Melius, Sr. Michael was a graduate of Colonie Central High School, class of 1986.
On August 26, 1989, Michael married Shelly Beach. They had been planning their 25th wedding anniversary celebration and were looking forward to many more years together.
Michael lived in East Nassau and worked at Honeywell Friction Materials as a machine technician. He also enjoyed working for many years at the infamous L-Ken's in Colonie where he met his wife and made many lifelong friends along the way.
Michael will be especially remembered for being "the host with the most," his willingness to always lend a hand, and his larger-than-life personality. The love he had for his family and friends was undeniable and reciprocated tenfold! Michael was an amazing husband, proud father, loving brother, wonderful son, and a loyal, compassionate friend.
Survivors include his loving wife Shelly Beach Melius; sons Michael F. Melius, III (21) and Trevor Charles Melius (19) of East Nassau; mother and stepfather Betty Ann and Arnold Prindle of Albany (and his sons Chris and Greg); sister Kara Melius Boldish (Dennis Pelletier) of Latham; mother and father-in-law Charles and Irene Beach; sister and brother-in-law Denise and Steve Connolly; nephews Stephen Palella, Sean Connolly, Andrew Boldish and Josh Pelletier; niece Katie Connolly; several loving and adoring aunts, uncles, cousins and best friends, as well as his beloved dog Bonnie AKA "Princess".
Michael was preceded in death by his father, Michael F. Melius, Sr; paternal grandparents Walter and Virginia Melius; maternal grandparents Michael F. and "Mammie" Kaido, and brother-in-law Scott Beach.
On Monday, August 4, his life will be celebrated at Cook Park in Colonie (Pavilion at the Sharon Drive entrance); a place that held many fond memories for Michael, both as a child and as an adult. All are welcome to attend this Celebration of Life from 4:00 to 7:00 pm.
