West Albany, NY Michael F. Herchenroder 71, of Everett Road, West Albany died on Monday August 23, 2010 at St. Peter's Hospice unit after a lengthy battle with cancer. His parents James E. and Jean Karl Herchenroder and brother Russell "Tim" Herchenroder (Nancy) predeceased him. Michael is survived by one daughter, Patricia Barber(Rick) of Pennellville, two sons, Michael Jr. of North Carolina, and Bill (Tina) of Pennsylvania, and six grandchildren, Natasha, Corey (Maleka), Alyssa, Emily, Sarah Jean, Grace and 1 great grandchild, Allegra Sophia; one sister, Jean Frederick of Wells, four brothers, Daniel (Marlene), of Northville; Karl (Loretta) of West Albany, Earl (Pat) of Waterford, and James (Judy) of Albany, and dear friend Roberta "Bobbie" Stern. Michael graduated from Colonie High School where he received All-Albany Honorable Mention on their 1957 football team. Michael graduated from Albany Business College with a degree in Business Administration and Accounting. He was a life member of the NRA, and the Institute of Management Accountants, a scout leader and scoutmaster in the BSA, member of the Colonie Elks, National Assoc. of Accountants, NYS Conservation Council, and NYS Rifle and Pistol Assoc. He was a licensed real estate person, a notary public & a life member of the West Albany Rod & Gun Club where he cofounded the very successful fishing derby, still being held after 36 years. Mike actively participated in meetings pertaining to activities in the town of Colonie. He was an avid hunter and fisherman who loved the outdoors.
Friends and family may call at the Newcomer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie on Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00 pm. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday 10:30am at Blessed Sacrament Church, Albany. Internment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery.
