Michael J. "Micky" Hurley, passed away on July 12, 2020. The love of his life, Cathleen G. Heeney, predeceased him on August 8, 2008. They shared over 40 years of life and love together. Micky continued to honor her until the day he joined her.
Born in South Boston, MA, Micky was the son of the late Agnes (Crowley) and Michael Hurley. Micky was a devote Catholic, who participated in daily mass until his health limited his mobility. He was an excellent painter and served as a member of the International Painters Union, District 9, Local 201 for over 30 years. He retired in 2008.
In his prime, Micky enjoyed going on adventures with his beloved Cathleen, meeting his many friends at OTB or catching up at the local tavern. After Cathleen passed, Micky chose to stay close to home, enjoy sports on tv and care for Puff, Cathy's dog, just as he promised his Cathy. In the past 12 years, since Micky struggled to navigate life without Cathleen, he was comforted and cared for by the daily presence of his grandson, John E. Heeney. "Johnny" as Micky would affectionately call him was a true treasure to Mick—making sure he was following the doctor's orders, eating well and staying on top of his affairs. In recent years, Micky enjoyed the additional support and assistance from his niece, Davia Wolcott. Micky was fiercely independent. Thus, he was so grateful for the tremendous support John and Davia provided, which afforded he the ability to live in the home that he and Cathy raised their family.
Micky was predeceased by his sisters Eleanor (Elie) Whelan and Agnes M. Moynihan, and brother James "Jimmy" Hurley. Micky is survived by Cathleen's son, John T. Heeney, grandchildren John E. (Kristen) Heeney and Stephanie M. Heeney, and great- grandchildren Talon and Adalyn, along with many cherished nieces and nephew across the United States and Ireland.
A mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Francis of Assisi, 391 Delaware Avenue in Albany NY at 10am on Monday July 20th, with interment at the Calvary Cemetery, Route 9W in Glenmont, NY.
In Lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Capital City Rescue Mission.
