Michael R. Kaplan

d. December 22, 2009

ALBANY- Michael R. Kaplan passed into eternal peace with his loving wife of 30 years by his side, on December 22, 2009 after a courageous 18 month battle with lung cancer.
"The trophy is not won until the battle is fought"
He is the son of the late Arthur J. Kaplan and Lilyan Kaplan. Grandson of the late Nathan and Goldie Herksowitz. Michael's hero throughout his life was his grandfather Nathan. He leaves to grieve his beloved wife Diana; his beloved brother Donald B. Kaplan (Anne); his loving cousins Howard and Robert Herksowitz; daughter Rayna Nicole Keal, grandchildren Elijah and Luke and good friend Carol Meizinger. He is the much loved brother in law of Frank (Sharon), Richard, Robert (Peggy), David (Yvonne) Ornoski, Kathleen (William) Degan and Carol Ornoski. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and many dear friends.
For those who had the opportunity to cross paths with Michael, he will be remembered for his gentle and caring nature. He was a humanitarian, a teacher of life, full of compassion and understanding. He was strong willed and determined. Michael loved life and loved unconditionally. He was a thoughtful free spirit, a sincere person who would give anything to anybody to enrich them physically, mentally and spiritually. Knowledgeable in many subjects, he shared advice and thoughts to many. For those who knew him well, we will miss his conversations. A prolific writer of everything from poetry and plays to political editorials and beyond, he fought for the underdog. Michael wanted everyone to grow from the experience of his life. To love one another, fight for what you believe and never give up hope. We were all honored to know and love him. He will be dearly missed. Michael was truly a gift from God. He made the world a better place and we will miss his beautiful smile and strong handshake.
Michael was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He retired in June 1996 from NYS Taxation & Finance. His passions were physical fitness and natural health.
A special thank you to Dr. Christian Gasson and his staff for the excellent care, support and compassion during our time of need. We thank Pastor Randy Anson , Pastor Michael Scholes and the congregation of the First Assembly of God for all of their prayers and support. "Thank You Michael for all of the beautiful memories."
" Give him rest with the devout and the just, in the place of the pasture of rest And in refreshment, of waters in the paradise of delight, from where the grief and pain sighing have fled away."
Services will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to American Lung Association, 155 Washington Ave. Suite 210, Albany, NY 12210 in memory of Michael R. Kaplan.
