Michael A. Renaud

June 28, 1961 — July 1, 2023

Michael A. Renaud, 62, of Jefferson, NY, unexpectedly passed away – entering the house of the Lord, on July 1, 2023.

Born June 28, 1961 in Schenectady, NY, Michael was a graduate of Mont Pleasant High School in the class of 1979. Immediately after high school, Michael joined the Marine Corps, becoming his platoon's Honor Graduate and serving until 1983 when – as a sergeant, he was honorably discharged.

Michael was a modern "renaissance" man, plying his creativity and passion over many disciplines throughout his life – from powerlifting to philosophy – from being an EMT, researcher, working in executive protection and being a committed follower of Christ, Michael personified the idea of "constant and never-ending improvement." His personality and quality truly shined in his entrepreneurial creation – his Sun Capsule, which would outlast all other tanning salons nationwide – more than 34 years at the time of his passing.

Though residents of Rotterdam will remember him as a steady presence on Altamont Avenue, his customers will remember him for the way he made them feel. People coming in for a seven-minute tan would often stay to talk – sometimes for hours. They shared their pain to a willing and empathetic ear, they shared their challenges to an expert who was enthusiastic to help and they shared the happy events in their lives to one of those rare people who was genuinely happy to hear about others' good fortune and blessings.

Michael routinely walked customers to and from their cars under an umbrella to keep them dry from the rain. If you were ever in need, Michael was the guy you'd call at any hour and know that he'd not leave you until things were ok.

He wasn't perfect but he was a good man who lived life on his terms. He loved God, his country and truth. He fiercely loved his family, friends and animals.

Michael was pre-deceased by his father (Raymond), Mother (Frances) and brother (Frank). He is survived by his beloved wife and best friend Tracey, sister Francine Apollo (Darian), brother Skip (Patty) and sisters, Paulette Gidley, Liz Mahoney and Maria Miciotta (Andrew) as well as many nieces and nephews. Though he didn't have children, his legacy will long outlive him through all of us whom he touched.

A private military funeral service will be held at Saratoga National Cemetery at the family's convenience. There will be a memorial/celebration of Michael's life for all of us who loved him that will be announced on the Sun Capsule Facebook page in the coming weeks.
