Michelina "Mickey" Arel, 83, passed away peacefully in the loving arms of her family on the morning of April 21, 2018 at her home in Guilderland, NY. Born on April 23, 1934 in Philadelphia, PA, Michelina was the daughter of the late Enrico and Mary Colanero.
She was the devoted wife for 46 years to the late Orville Ami Arel, who passed away on July 10, 2001.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her brother Freddie Colanero.
Michelina is survived by her five beloved children, Michael (Kathy Pangburn) Arel, Stephen (Laurie) Arel, Vicki Arel, Michele (Bill) Fleming, and Dina (Chuck) Ayers. She was the cherished grandmother of Dana, Nicole, John, Julia, Paul, and Aidan. She was the sister of Rosemarie DePasquale, Angelina Montanero, Rita D'Agastino, and brother William Colanero.
Michelina started her career in the banking industry in Philadelphia where she was also proud to say she danced on American Bandstand! She left the workforce to raise five children who were all born in Massena, New York. Life's adventures took the family to Albany NY, Kansas City MO, Berlin NJ, and eventually back to Albany NY. Michelina prided herself in raising her family and taking good care of her husband. It was a selfless life of putting her family before herself always. She cherished the holidays and her love of cooking was enjoyed by all. Mom will be missed.
A very special thank you to the group of angels that helped care for Mom and brought her much comfort while providing heartfelt care right to the end. The lead angel Dominique Simms, along with Lisa, Tamika, Feonia, MaryBeth, and Betty. And a big thank you to Dr. Fran Vachon for the numerous home visits and the nurses of Landmark for their outstanding care of Michelina. We can't thank you all enough.
