COLONIE – Mike Erceg, 85, passed away on Friday, April 13, 2007 at the Stratton VA Medical Center in Albany, surrounded by his loving family.
Mike was born on September 5, 1921 in Cementon, NY and was the son of the late John and Dominica Evco Erceg. He was predeceased by his wife, Venetia Erceg and his son, Daniel Erceg.
Mike served in the US Army during WWII, attaining the rank of Sergeant. He received a degree in automotive technology from Hudson Valley Community College. He furthered his education and obtained his license as an electrician where he worked at General Electric in Schenectady for over 20 years before retiring in the mid 1980's. He was also an Auxiliary Police Office in Colonie and enjoyed baseball. He participated in the Senior Olympics at SUNY Albany where he received several gold medals.
Mike is survived by his son, Mike (Alice) Erceg of Bainbridge, NY; his daughters, Patricia (Bob) Ferris and Sherry Newcomb all of Colonie; his grandchildren, Wayne (Heather) Newcomb, Shauna, Sarah and Bret Ferris all of Colonie, Shirley Cicciaro and Michael Erceg both of Florida, Carrie Ann, Mark, Matthew, Steve and Christopher Erceg all of Bainbridge; 8 great-grandchildren; his brothers, Peter Erceg of Cementon, Anthony Erceg of Cairo and John Erceg of Kingston and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters, Sr. Josephine and Mary Roscoe and his brother, Frank Erceg.
The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the doctor's and nurses at the VA for the care they gave to Mike.
Funeral service will be held 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave.) then to St. Clare's Church, Colonie, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Memory's Garden in Colonie.
