COLONIE-Milton A. Roberts, 79, of Sand Creek Rd. Colonie passed away suddenly on Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at St. Peter's Hospital. Mr. Roberts was born in Albany, NY the son of the late Milton R. and Jeannette Urquhart Roberts. He graduated from Albany High School. Mr. Roberts was a truck driver for the Civil Defense Department earlier in his career and retired after 30years from August Bohl Contracting Company. He was a member of the Teamsters local # 294 and the Colonie Elks Club #2192 for over 30 years, where he volunteered in the kitchen. Even after retirement, he continued to work part time to help others. Mr. Roberts enjoyed cruises, gambling and gardening. He will be remembered most of all for his love of striking up conversations with anyone and everyone he met.
Mr. Roberts is survived by his beloved wife of 30 years, Jacquelyn (Dierberger) Roberts of Colonie. He is also survived by his loving children Andrew (Penny) Roberts of Wilton and Darlene (Richard) DeGonza of Rotterdam and by his step children Tora-Lynn (Paul) Lyons of E. Greenbush and George (Cathy) Johnson of Fort Worth, TX. Mr. Roberts leaves behind his grandchildren Michael, Aaron, Danielle, Nick, Bobby and Dylan, two great grandchildren, brother in law Howard Dierberger of Nassau and sister in law Joyce Russell of Port Richie, FL and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Roberts was predeceased by his former wife Florence Roberts.
Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7PM on Thursday, April 11, 2013 at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie.
A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Friday, April 12, 2013 at the funeral home.
Interment will be at Memory Gardens, Colonie.
Contributions may be made to the Heart Association or to the Red Cross in memory of Mr. Roberts.
