Milton Ivan Thomas Jr. "Hussien" was laid to rest on December 20, 2020. He was born April 16, 1952 in Chicago, Illinois to the late, Milton Ivan Thomas Sr. and Bernice Thomas. As a young teen, they relocated to Albany, NY, finally settling in Schenectady, NY where he graduated from Linton high school. As a young man he was very likeable and smart. He married his high school sweetheart and they had a baby girl. He enlisted and served his country as a Sergeant Fire Fighter in the US Air Force, serving 5 years, including a year in Thailand, where he earned a red belt in martial arts. After being honorably discharged from the military, he attended San Diego School of Mortuary Science. He worked as a mortician in California for a short period of time. He then returned to Schenectady, NY and began a career in construction, rehabilitating homes in the Hamilton Hill area. He later established his own company, Hoodrich Painters, Inc. where he managed numerous properties. He was known as accountable and prideful of his work.
Milton "Hussien" was predeceased by his parents, Milton and Bernice Thomas, and sister Renee Bowan (Jap) of Schenectady, NY. He leaves to cherish his memory his daughter Jacqueline M. Thomas of Latham, NY, two grandchildren Eric and Ayanna Williams of Latham, NY, one brother Bernard Thomas of Albany, NY, sister Lillian Smith of Cohoes, NY and sister Althea Thomas of Troy, NY, longtime best friend and partner Syrentha Bryant of Schenectady, NY, step great grandson, Amillian Bryant of Schenectady, NY and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
Milton "Hussien" Thomas was a humble strong man of few words. He converted to Islam and proudly took the name Hussien. He was known to be extremely intelligent, sarcastically humorous, friendly but private. His warm personality and laid back demeanor was inviting to all around him. He always took pride in his appearance, at one time having his clothes specially made while living overseas and always liked to smell nice with scented oils. His infectious smile and laughter spoke volumes of his love and wisdom by his mere presence. He always brought an interesting perspective that made you smile when you had the pleasure to converse with him. He will forever be greatly admired, loved and missed.
A viewing will be held on Wednesday, December 30, 2020 from 11:00 am to 11:3 0am at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie, NY 12205. A private service will be provided for the family from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm. Gathering size within the chapel is based on the current NYS occupancy requirements. Mask are required and social distancing is to be observed inside and outside the chapel.
