Mita Kulkarni

d. November 8, 2008

Mita S. Kulkarni, 36, of Latham, passed away suddenly on November 8, 2008, at Albany Medical Center. She was born on August 8, 1972 in Albany and was the beloved daughter of Sheela and Sudhir Kulkarni, of Latham.
Mita was educated in the North Colonie School District and graduated from Shaker High School in 1993 with a special diploma. She worked at the Albany chapter of the Association for Retarded Citizens, now called New Visions, in a sheltered workshop. Mita enjoyed traveling with her family and she made trips to India, Mexico, and California in the last year. She also loved bowling, going out to dinner, movies, dancing, swimming, watching television, and listening to 1980s music and Bollywood film songs. Mita's family was of utmost importance to her and being with them was what she enjoyed most. She had a very special bond with her brother, Kapil.
Mita is survived by her parents; her sister Mona Caron, brother-in-law Darryl Caron, nephew Justin and niece Meghana, all of Clifton Park; her brother Kapil Kulkarni and sister-in-law Sonali Kulkarni, of Los Angeles, California, and her maternal grandfather Vitthal Limaye of Mumbai, India. She is also survived by many aunts, uncles, and cousins across the world. She will also be remembered by her cherished friends, both from New Visions and the local Indian community. For the last three years, Mita lived in the New Visions residence in Glenmont, where her housemates and the staff were like her extended family.
Mita is giving the gift of life through organ donation. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mita can be given to New Visions of Albany, 334 Krumkill Road, Slingerlands, NY 12159. Funeral services will be held at the Oakwood Cemetery Chapel on Oakwood Ave. in Troy at 11am Tuesday November 11.
