Morton Scher

July 10, 1928 — February 14, 2015

Morton "Morry" Scher of Colonie, NY and Boca Raton, FL passed away on February 14, 2015 after a long courageous battle with cancer.

Morry was the beloved husband of Florence White Paloski Scher and the treasured stepfather of William (Brenda) Paloski of League City, TX, Janet (David Sutstrim) Paloski of Colonie, David Paloski of Pompano Beach, FL, and Patricia (Michael) Zeccolo of Colonie. He is also survived by six loving grandchildren, Nicholas (Emily), Carolyn, Nathan (Cheryl Hodges), and Adam Paloski, Michele (Don Horan) Zeccolo, and Heather (Matthew) Anatriello, as well as two adoring great-grandchildren, Connor Hodges and Quinn Mae Paloski.

Born on July 10, 1928 in the Bronx NY to the late William and Mary (Scher) Kudranetzky, Morry was raised from the age of four in an orphanage in the Bronx. Morry joined the United States Air Force in 1946, and rose to the rank of Sergeant during the three years he served his country. He often spoke of his memorable military posting to post-war England as the highlight of this period. Following his military service, Morry completed his high school diploma, and went on to earn an Associate's degree in Electronic Technology at the New York City Community College in Brooklyn. After graduating he relocated to Schenectady to accept a drafting job with General Electric. He remained at GE for more than 37 years, retiring in 1988.

Morry met Florence after retiring, and they spent a wonderful 23 years together. Morry loved to travel with Florence, especially on large cruise ships. Together they visited Alaska, San Francisco, Seattle, Las Vegas, San Antonio, London, Paris, Puerto Rico, the Panama Canal, and many islands in the Caribbean. They also became snowbirds, spending their winters in Boca Raton, where Morry loved the laid back pace and was able to extend his tennis and swimming pursuits into year round activities. Morry was also a voracious reader, a lover of history documentaries and classic movies, and a closet tech geek, always fascinated by the next new electronic gadget. Above all, Morry was a kind, gentle soul, who brought out the good in everyone he met. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Morry and his family send many thanks to the Oncologist Group at NYOH, the staff at Memorial Hospital, the Visiting Nurses and Therapists from the Eddy Foundation, and the wonderful staff of the Community Hospice. Very special thanks go to Dr. Keith Rebehn, who was a beacon of hope in Morry's life during these past few years.

At his request, funeral services will be private and limited to his immediate family. In lieu of flowers, those so inclined may make contributions in his name to the American Cancer Society.
