ROTTERDAM-Myrtle Sarah Askew passed away peacefully on December 25, 2017.
She was born on April 27, 1926 daughter of the late George and Verna (Eldrige) Hamm in Niverville, NY.
Myrtle worked at the Army Depot, YMCA and Ellis Hospital as a Housekeeper. In 1946 she married Lawrence Chichester. She married Arthur Askew in 1966. Myrtle was a member of the Eddy Day Program. She loved bingo, lottery tickets and animals especially her best 4 legged friend, Lexie. She will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her children, Judith Bartholowmew of Rotterdam, Doreen (Nils) Hedlund of Schenectady and Helen (Randy) Schauman of Rotterdam; brother-in-law, George Chichester; sister-in-law, Kim Hamm; 6 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was predeceased by her brother, Delbert Hamm in 1980, Melvin Hamm in 2015; sister, Clara Gravell in 2007; brother-in-law, George Gravell in 1998; husband, Arthur Askew in 1980; ex-husband, Lawrence Chichester in 2008.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 28, 2017 at from 12:30pm-2:30pm at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Rd., Albany, NY 12205. A funeral service will being at 2:30pm following visitation at the funeral home. Interment will be at Park View Cemetery.
