Myrtle B. Kirkland, 87, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 27, 2011 surrounded by her loving family. Myrtle was born in Bennington, VT. to the late John and Lillian Begley. She worked as an executive secretary for many years with Behr-Manning Company and then with Norton Company in Watervliet. Myrtle loved to travel, especially to the ocean, she enjoyed her summer trips to New Hampshire and was a member of the Eastern Star in Delmar. Her greatest passion was spending time with her family. In addition to her parents, Myrtle was predeceased by her husband, Grant F. Kirkland and her sister, Shirley L. Liberty.
Myrtle is survived by her three boys; Dane Kirkland, John (Alice) Kirkland and Todd (Julia) Kirkland; she is the cherished grandmother of Heather, Christina (Jeremy), Christopher (Carmen), April (Tim), Michael (Melissa) and Jeffrey; and is the beloved great-grandmother of, Breanna, Duncan and Holly Michelle. She is the twin sister of Veva Blood. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10:00 am at New Comer Canon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 5 to 8 pm at the funeral home. Interment will follow the service at Memory Gardens, Colonie. Memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled Veterans, PO Box 1536, Albany, NY 12201 in Myrtle's honor.
