SCHENECTADY – Nadine S. Crowe, 88, of Kingsway Village, formerly of Quaker Street, NY and Westbury, LI, passed away on Friday, December 21, 2007 at Ellis Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
Nadine was born on October 5, 1919 in Altamont, and was the daughter of the late Edward and Hila Scott Sturges. She graduated from Ursinus College in Collegeville, PA and served in the US Navy during WWII as a Wave. She married Gerald D. Crowe on November 18, 1944; he passed away in 2000.
Nadine taught elementary school for 25 years, first for the Duanesburg Central Schools, and later for the East Meadow School District on Long Island, before retiring in 1979. She was a member of the Mineola Choral Society, the Unitarian Universalist Societies on LI and Albany, and several area square dancing clubs. She enjoyed quilting, cross stitching, needlework, playing the piano and organ, was an avid reader, and did tai chi in her later years.
Nadine is survived by her children, David S. (Kathleen) Crowe of Charlotte, NC; Jeffrey G. (April) Crowe of Williamsburg, WV; and Melanie C. (Jeffrey) Finkle of Albany; as well as five grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Doctors Without Borders or The Nature Conservancy in memory of Nadine Crowe.
A graveside service will take place at the Grove Cemetery in the spring of 2008.
