NISKAYUNA – Nancy Naumoff Gorgos, 59, died June 27, 2005 at the Community Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital, following a long illness. Born in Kingston, PA, she was the daughter of the late Dr. Joseph H. and Ruth Hurrey Naumoff. Nancy was raised in Niskayuna and resided there throughout her lifetime. Mrs. Gorgos was a former girl scout, spending her teenage years with the Sea Scouts Program. She graduated from Niskayuna High School in 1964. Nancy attended Alfred University and graduated from Albany Business College with a computer science degree. Mrs. Gorgos worked for several years for the New York State Dept. of Agriculture and Markets prior to raising her family. For the past eleven years, she was the administrator for the Home Furnishings Program of Schenectady, a volunteer agency serving families in need. She was well- known in Niskayuna for her many volunteer activities. Nancy served in many leadership roles with the Parent Teacher Organizations at Craig Elementary, Iroquois Middle School and Niskayuna High School. She was a longtime member of the Niska-Day organization committee and served in many capacities, including co-chairman. Nancy was the beloved wife of 35 years to James Gorgos. She was the devoted mother of David Gorgos of Philadelphia, PA and Debra Gorgos of Troy, NY. She is also survived by her aunt, Margaret Hurrey of Las Vegas, NV, her brother, Michael, her sister, Natalie and numerous nieces, nephews and in-laws.
Friends may gather to reminisce and celebrate Nancy's life on Wednesday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave). Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to remember Nancy may make contributions to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, Northeastern New York Chapter, 6 Greenwood Drive, East Greenbush, NY 12061 in memory of Nancy N. Gorgos.
