Guilderland – Nathaniel J. Combs, 86, passed away on Saturday, January 7, 2006 at St. Clare's Hospital in Schenectady.
Nathaniel was born on November 9, 1919 in Oswego and was the son of the late Goodloe and Anna Hort Combs. He served in the US Airforce during WWII, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant.
Nathaniel was a teacher for the Pearl River School District for 25 years before retiring in 1981. He was a member of the Carman United Methodist Church in Schenectady. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
Nathaniel is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Norma E. (Crawford) Combs; his children, Steven (Michelle) Combs, Catherine (William) Lediger, Ruth (Dave) Thorne, Rita (Alan) Ruch, Dayla (Gerry) Buttner, Gary Crocco, Vicki (Chris) Antonucci; his son-in-law, James Karras; his brother, Arby (Shirley) Combs and his grandchildren, Jessica (William) Bailey, Jared (Jennifer) Karras, Jordon Karras, Amanda Ruch, Caitlyn Lediger, Christopher Antonucci, Michael Crocco, Matthew Thorne, Sean Antonucci, Emily Buttner, Megan Combs and Hannah Combs. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Janet Karras, a son, David Crocco, a granddaughter, Rachel Ruch and a grandson, Justin Combs.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home 343 New Karner Road in Colonie. Interment will follow at Gerald B.H. Solomon-Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
