ROANOKE, VA - Nathaniel Wilbur (Neil) Owen, 92, of Roanoke, died Tuesday December 27, 2005. He was born February 7, 1913 in Schenectady and was the son of Nathaniel H. and Lillian Mayott Owen. He was a 1934 graduate of RPI and a member of the Rensselaer Society of Engineers. He had a 42 year career as an engineer with the General Electric Co.
He was raised to the Sublime degree of Master Mason and was a member of St. George's Lodge No. 6 AF & AM in Rotterdam. He proudly wore the pin commemorating his 65 years of Masonry. His Schenectady masonic history included the 32nd degree in the Scottish Rite. He served in the Roanoke County Board of Zoning Appeals for several years. He was an enthusiastic woodworker and a devoted grandfather.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Esther Stritter Owen; his daughter, Kathryn Alice Owen Orth and her husband Geoffrey of Farmville, VA; his daughter Shelley Esther Owen Byrd and her husband David of Roanoke; four grandchildren, Andrew Nathaniel Orth, Joseph Orth, Kathryn Scott Byrd and Elizabeth Randall Byrd; and his sister, Jean Owen Arnold and her husband Harold of Kittery Point, Maine. Many loving nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 12 noon at NewComer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave). A calling hour will precede the service from 11am to 12 noon at the funeral home. Interment will be in Memorys Garden.
