Nelly Bigelow-Hutchison

Nelly Bigelow-Hutchison (nee Bertrand) of Colonie, NY entered into rest on February 14, 2017 after a sudden illness. The beloved wife and soulmate of James "Darren" Scoggins and beloved mother of Karen Bigelow-Varney and Brett (Rose) Bigelow, she was a warm, vibrant, compassionate, courageous, dynamic, creative, strong-willed, spirited, fascinating, good, loving, and generous woman. She was lovely, with soulful eyes and a smile like the sun breaking through the clouds.

Nelly was a loving and devoted wife, a certified court interpreter for her native language of French, and an antiques dealer. She loved cats, travel, antique shows, garage sales, reading, movies, and jazz. She had a kind heart and frequently helped those in need, giving to the poor and feeding stray cats.

She was predeceased by her parents Francois and Florence Bertrand, her brothers Robert and Andre, and her cats Babar, Mimi, Sophie, Daisy, and Lianna. She is survived by her husband and children; her sister Francine and brother Josef; her grand-daughters Michelle (Rodrigo) Aruajo, Alicia (Max) DeSieno, and Kylie Bigelow; and her cats Thommy, Peony, and Fonzie.

This world is a far, far poorer place without her in it, and she will be deeply missed. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her name to the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York, 965 Albany Shaker Road, Latham, NY 12110. A memorial service is being planned and will be announced in the near future.
