Albany-Nelson S. Cassaro, 80, passed away on Thursday, March 4, 2021. Nelson was the son of the late Nelson R. and Louella (Curcio) Cassaro of Gloversville, NY.
Nelson served in the United States Army in the 1960s and upon honorable discharge, set his sights on cooking, which was his true passion in life. From owning restaurants in the Fulton County area, to catering countless weddings, then working many summers in the Catskill resort scene throughout the 1980s-90s, Nelson loved serving friends and family, alike, an amazing meal. He retired out of the Italian-American Community Center on Washington Ave. Ext. in Albany. Most will remember Nelson by his laugh, which could light up a room. Always surrounded by many friends, traveling, and hosting dinner parties, he never skipped a beat.
Nelson was predeceased by siblings: Angelina Cassaro; Joseph Cassaro; Charles Cassaro; and Michael Cassaro, all of Gloversville. He is survived by his wife Mary (D'Amore) Cassaro of Johnstown, and their only daughter, Michelina (Michele) Ann Cassaro, of Troy, his youngest brother, John Cassaro, of Albany, as well as various nieces and nephews in both the D'Amore and Cassaro families who always loved their "Uncle Butch."
In lieu of flowers, Mary and Michele ask that you make a charitable donation (in memory of his beloved, Miss Kitty, who crossed The Rainbow Bridge on December 1, 2020) to Orange Street Cats of Albany at: www.orangestreetcats.org and find their "make a donation" link.
