Nelson Allen Davis, 61, passed away after an extraordinarily heroic battle with non-Hodgkins lymphoma on August 23, 2016.
Nelson was born on April 22, 1955 in Ticonderoga, New York. He spent many years of his life living in Saranac Lake and Port Henry, NY. He worked at the 1980 Olympics in Lake Placid, New York with the New York State Olympic Development Committee building trails at Whiteface Mountain. He moved to Albany, NY in 1981 with Suzanne. They were married on April 23, 1983 in Canton, NY. He worked for Dawn Homes Management for 27 years as Director of Property Maintenance where he made many lasting friendships.
Nelson enjoyed fishing, camping, and canoeing in the Adirondacks. He loved family trips to Disney World, watching the Giants, and spending time with his many friends. He was also an avid golfer. He celebrated Christmas to the fullest. He was selfless, loving, and caring to everyone he met. He is very proud of his children and especially loved watching his son play "that little red guitar" in his band Formula 5. His legacy will live on in all those who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his beautiful wife, Suzanne Davis, his daughter Shannon (Nicholas) Caponera and his son Joseph Davis. He is also survived by his mother Carol Osborne Davis, sister Emily (James) Donohue, his brother Richard Davis, sister-in-law Margie Davis as well as many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his best friend Brian Trela, the greatest friend in the world. He is predeceased by his father Richard Harding Davis, brother Anthony Davis, and nephew Kevin Donohue.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society B. Thomas Golisano Hope Lodge; 110 South Goodman, St. Rochester, NY 14620 in memory of Nelson Davis which provides housing free of charge to patients and caregivers of Strong Memorial Hospital as they undergo treatment.
Calling hours will be held at New Comer Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Albany, New York on Thursday, August 25, 2016 from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, August 26, 2016 at 10:00 am at St. Pius X Church, 23 Crumitie Rd., Loudonville, NY. Inurnment will be at a later date.
