November 16, 1942 — January 7, 2024

Troy - Nelson H. "Sonny" Hill, 81, passed peacefully on Sunday, January 7, 2024 with his loving family by his side. Nelson was the devoted husband to Carla J. Hill. They were married 55 years.

Nelson worked as a welder and machine operator at The Port of Albany until his retirement.

Nelson enjoyed spending time with his entire family and loved playing video games with them as long as the screen didn't flicker. He was a motorcycle enthusiast and even created his own motorcycle from a Yamaha and a Honda, calling it a "Yamahonda". He had a passion for flying; even have created his own Ultralight. His favorite activity was creating new things from the various items his grandchildren brought him. His family, especially his dogs Ally and the late Mya were the most cherished things in his life.

In addition to his wife, Nelson is survived by his children, Anthony (Tonya) Hill, Andrew (Siobhan) Hill, Jason (Belinda) Hill, and Meranda (Scott) Frass; 18 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren; half siblings, Patti (Richard) Mayer and Harold Fox; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Calling hours will be held at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 181 Troy Schenectady Road, Watervliet, New York 12189 on Saturday, January 20, 2024 from 10am to 12pm.
