LOUDONVILLE – Nelson S. Maurer, 89, passed away on Monday February 20, 2006 at his home.
Nelson was born on February 5, 1917 in Albany and was the son of the late Nelson Avery and Clara (Skillman) Maurer.
Nelson was an industrial arts teacher for over 35 years, having taught first at Roscoe Central School in Roscoe, NY then for South Colonie School District. He then went to work for New York State as an editor for the Education Department for over 10 years. He was a past president of the Albany Camera Club. He enjoyed photography, skiing, and putting on slide presentations for area nursing homes, libraries and clubs.
Nelson is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Evelyn R. (Sumner) Maurer; his children, Bud (Sandy) Maurer and Nancy (Jack) Decatur; his grandchildren, Cindy (Mike) Gile, John Decatur, Jill Decatur, Jim (Meg) Maurer and Matthew Maurer; including his great grandchildren, Ben, Evelyn, Lauren and Mason.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 1 p.m. at New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home 343 New Karner Road in Colonie. A calling hour will precede the service from 12 to 1 p.m. Interment Memory's Garden in Colonie.
