Nicholas Alexopoulos Newman

May 8, 1930 — January 15, 2013

LOUDONVILLE – Nicholas Alexopoulos Newman, 82, passed away on Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at Albany Medical Center. Born in Clinton, Massachusetts, he was the son of the late John and Katherine Dracopoulos Alexopoulos.

Nicholas graduated in 1948 from Cohoes High School as class Salutatorian. He joined the U. S. Navy and served as an Electronics Technician aboard the U.S.S. Pittsburgh on its mission through the Mediterranean and the Indian Ocean from 1952 to 1954. Nicholas established, owned and operated Toytown in Cohoes with his brother Christopher from 1958 to 1968. He was also a waiter at Calsolaro's restaurant in Albany, attended Russell Sage Business College and was a Real Estate salesperson for PAM Realty.

Although very reserved, he had a keen sense of humor and clever wit. He was always learning and widely read. His late wife Pam was often heard to remark that "Nicky's like a walking dictionary!"

Nick, Pam and daughter Cindy were Extras in the movie "The Way We Were". They enjoyed vacations in their 26 foot travel trailer, and they often danced the night away at benefit galas in Saratoga and Albany. Nick and Pam made a glamorous couple!

Nicholas was predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Pamela who passed in May, and his sister Mary Alexopoulos.

He is survived by his daughter Cynthia Nicole Newman of Loudonville; brothers Christopher (Kay) Alexopoulos of Lansingburgh, William (Barbara) Alexopoulos of Montour Falls; sisters Georgia Bobarakis and Dorothy (Robert) Miazga of Latham, and several nieces and nephews.

A military burial service will be conducted by the Honor Guard Association at Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, on Tuesday, January 22, at 2:00 PM.
