Nicholas T. DiNapoli

July 6, 1941 — September 25, 2024

Hauppauge

Nicholas T DiNapoli, 83, of Hauppauge, NY peacefully passed away on September 25, 2024, of natural causes.

Nick, aka Big Nick, was born on July 6, 1941, to parents Jessie Manning and Thomas DiNapoli in Astoria, NY.

He was a beloved Father, proud grandfather, caring brother, and spouse two times over. Big Nick will be remembered fondly by all his family.

Big Nick, as he was affectionally known, stood tall at 6’-4” and his presence filled the room, his lively and loud personality were all part of his charm. Nick was loyal to his friends, family, and his favorite restaurants, and all who cared to join him for a meal. Big Nick will leave behind a legacy of family, fun, food, and fishing. He truly knew how to live a resilient and exciting life, which he lived his way, so don’t get in his way. Nick certainly enjoyed almost every minute.

As a teenager roaming the streets of Ditmars Blvd and Astoria Park, Nick always commanded an audience when sharing embellished stories of his youth in the city and beaches of Riverhead, NY, which is where his love of deep-sea fishing began.

From the beaches to work, Nick began his career as a union crane operator for NYC and went on to run a successful business buying and selling construction equipment for over 30 years. With his phone in hand, Big Nick loved the art of the deal and the ensuing negotiations.

Although never retired, his passions seemed to blend, he enjoyed his work, his wine, and deep-sea fishing off eastern long island and south Florida. Big Nick was an accomplished tennis player and devout fan of the US Open, which he attended year after year.

Big Nick is survived by his son Craig, and daughter Mia Barbera (Frank), Brother Thomas, and five wonderful grandchildren: Chelsea, Nicholas and Tessa DiNapoli and Claudia and Kyra Barbera.

A family service will be held at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery in Niskayuna, NY on 11/25/24.
