ALBANY – Nicholas F. Lyons, 71, affectionately known by Nick or Frank, passes away on March 1, 2008, surrounded by his loving family, at the Guilderland Center Nursing Home.
Nicholas was born on July 21, 1936 in Troy and was the son of the late Albert S. and Catherine M. O'Shaughnessy Lyons. He worked as a kitchen assistant at the Van Rensselaer Manor Nursing Home in Troy for 25 years, before retiring in 1991. He enjoyed fishing, camping, and western movies.
Nicholas is survived by his loving wife of 23 years, Violetta Rose Lovelock Lyons; his children, Keith, Kurt, Kerrie and Karla; his step-children, Kent, John, Bernard and Jack DeShaw and Tammy Meyer; his sister, Rita (Sal) Festa; his brother, John (Maryann) Lyons; eight grandchildren, 13 step-grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Kevin; a step-daughter, Marie Cooney; brothers, Bill, Don and Al Lyons and sister, Terrie Gregoire.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave.). Interment will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery in Troy. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
