ALBANY, NY – Nicholas George Glinos, 80, passed away on Saturday, January 10, 2009 at the Teresian House Nursing Home with his loving wife by his side. Nick was born in Korthian, Andros, Greece. He came to the United States in 1955. He married his wife, Irene in 1961. Nick worked as a painter for New York State Office of General Services for 21 years, before retiring in 1988. Nick was devoted to his family. He is the beloved husband of 47 years to Irene (Melas) Glinos. He is the loving and caring father of Eugenia (David) Alven of Johnson City, TN and Sophia (Craig) Pallone of Albany. Nick is the cherished grandfather of Paige Nicole and Lucas Steven Alven and Thomas James Pallone. He is the brother of Marietta (Lambros) Yourntas of Athens, Greece. Also surviving are his sisters-in-law, Irene and Demetria Glinos of Athens, Greece and several nieces and nephews. Nick was predeceased by his siblings, Yanni, Leonides. Demetri, Katerina, Aphrodite and Despina. The family extends a heartfelt thank you to the staff of the Teresian House Nursing Home for the care given to Nick and the support offered to Irene in his final days.
Funeral services will be on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at St. Sophia's Greek Orthodox Church in Albany. Calling hours will be Tuesday evening from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the church. The Trisagion Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the church. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions would be appreciated to the Teresian House, 200 Washington Avenue Ext., Albany, NY 12203 or St. Sophia's Greek Orthodox Church, 440 Whitehall Rd., Albany, NY 12208 in memory of Nicholas G. Glinos.
