Albany- Nicola First, 80, died on Saturday, March 19, 2005, at the Stratton VA Medical Center. Born in Albany he was the son of the late Anthony and Anna First. Nicola served his country in the U.S. Coast Guard during WWII. After his return he went on to work as a laborer for the Local #190 for many years. Nicola is predeceased by seven brothers, and two sisters.
Nicola is survived by his wife of over 50 years Lillie First of Albany, his three children; Deborah Sickles and husband James of Troy, Mary Cangemi and husband Nunzio of Rensselaer, and Mark First of Albany. He is also survived by his four grandchildren; James Sickles, Jr., Nicole and Mary Cangemi, and Cameron First, his sister Mary Ross, his brother Louie First, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday March, 23rd at the Historic Church of St. Mary on Capitol Hill, Albany, at a time to be announced. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave.). Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 260 Osborne Rd., Loudonville, NY 12211 in memory of Nicola First.
